Attendance
Ohio law requires written notification of all types of absences, including full-day absences, late arrivals, early dismissals and medical appointments.
Student attendance is tracked in two primary ways:
Chronic absenteeism includes all instructional time missed for any reason, including excused and unexcused absences, tardies, medical appointments, pre-planned trips, non-school competitions and religious expression days. A student is considered chronically absent when they miss 10% or more of the school year.
Habitual truancy includes only unexcused absences. Absences for reasons that are not excused under district policy, including vacations or travel, may count toward habitual truancy thresholds and could eventually result in additional intervention or court involvement.
Families will receive written notification when a student has missed more than 50 hours of school and when a student reaches the chronic absenteeism threshold. Families can monitor their student’s attendance through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
The complete district attendance policy, including definitions, absence procedures and attendance intervention requirements, can be found in the Student Handbook.
Information about pre-arranged absences, including vacations, non-school competitions and other planned time away from school, can be found at the bottom of this page, along with the required Pre-Arranged Absence Form.

Other Reporting Options
Alternatively, parents can call our attendance phone line or email the attendance office. Attendance emails need to include the student's name, date, time and reason for the absence or reason to leave school.
In advance of a planned absence, parents can send a note to school with their student and have them drop it off at the attendance office.

Pre-Arranged Absences
If your child will have an extended absence during the school year, a Pre-Arranged Absence form must be completed and on file in the office three days prior to the leave. A form can be picked up in the office, or downloaded at the link below. If your child will be out of town for travel, sports tournaments, family events, etc., these will always be unexcused absences. Note: Pre-arranged does not mean the absence is excused.
